prestigious National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in Winfield, Kansas. (Follow the links to contest archives 2002.)


Readers of the Colorado Springs Gazette and Independent newspapers voted Phil Best Male Singer and Best Folksinger for two years running.


In 2001, Phil won the Peak Area Performance and Artists Award (PAPA) in the Popular Music category.


Several of his instrumentals have been featured on National Public Radio broadcasts.

Phil Volan has earned a reputation among an ever-widening group of fans for his strong fingerstyle guitar playing and soulful voice, which have developed and matured in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain region over some thirty years. He also performs with duo partner Joleen Bell, and sometimes as a trio or quartet adding other musicians such as Charlie Hall on bass, guitar or mandolin, or Jody Adams on fiddle and mandolin, among others.
 
For several years, Phil partnered with popular singer/songwriter Joe Uveges (see recordings.) He has opened for or performed with such well-known artists as Suzi Bogguss, Phil Keaggy, Chuck Pyle, Tuck & Patty, David Bromberg,
Bryan Bowers, Pat Donohue, Jonatha Brooke, Wind Machine, Acoustic Eidolon, Chris Proctor, John Stewart, and John Gorka.

Phil has extensive experience in the recording studio with nine CD releases, and session work on many others.
